Chocolate Recipes Delights Your Kids Can Make

July 3rd, 2009 by susie

Kids love to bake and make delicious treats from the kitchen. Giving them opportunities to make their own chocolate recipes or other tasty treats will delight them. Here are just some ideas on little chocolate decadent dreams that your children can make without much help.

Hot Fudge Sundae

This is one of the simple chocolate recipes around for your child to make and then enjoy afterwards. All you need is a pint of ice cream (chocolate or vanilla), hot fudge, whipped cream and any tiny, tasty toppings your child would like to put on top (such as cherries, sprinkles, nuts, etc.).

Store bought hot fudge will work just fine for this project as it is easier for your child to prepare. Have your child get a bowl and scoop out 3 or 4 scoops of ice cream into the bowl. Then have them heat up the hot fudge in a microwave following the instructions on the bottle or jar and pour over the ice cream.

Next, they will either scoop or spray the whipped cream on top of the hot fudge (depending on the type of bottle they got). Have them finish off with their favorite decorative toppings. Eat and Love it!

Chocolate M&M Crispy Bars

Chocolate recipes filled with gooey marshmallow and lots of chocolate is every child’s dream to make and eat. Chocolate M&M Crispy bars are so easy to make and so good to eat! They can be whipped up in as little as 10 minutes and can be eaten once cooled. What you need is:

- 1/4 cup of butter
- 1 (10 oz., approx. 40) pkg. of regular marshmallows or 3 cups of miniature marshmallows
- 6 cups of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies
- 1 cup M&Ms (can be substituted with nestle chocolate chips)

In a microwave safe bowl, heat up butter and marshmallows for 2 minutes in microwave. Stir when melted. Microwave again for an additional minute. Stir in Rice Krispies and M&Ms and press into a pan that you have buttered or sprayed with a non-stick spray or have lined with wax paper. Allow to cool.

Spending a day with children making different types of chocolate recipes can be a very rewarding experience for both you and your kids. It teaches that family time is both fun and important. On the next rainy day, have your child put on their Betty Crocker hat and whip up some fun in the kitchen.

Baby Nursery Decor—Today’s Trends

July 2nd, 2009 by susie

Today’s baby nursery décor is vastly different than in years past.  Gone are the traditional pink for girls and blue for boys.  We now have a whole array of colors and styles suitable for both genders.  While both colors are still found in today’s baby nursery décor, the colors have become deeper and less pastel.  And gone are the traditional and simple lamps or boring wall clocks that graced the rooms of nurseries past.  No more boring painted walls with a simple picture here and there.

Now we have the options of graphic wall clocks, funky lighting, and beautiful murals.  Many parents are thinking outside the box in terms of their nursery decoration.  Who says you have to have a lamp with the traditional shade?  Why not go for a pink pig that lights up?  Or a dachshund that glows with a cobalt blue hue?

A mural is another trendy idea in baby nursery decoration.  You can choose a huge dolphin jumping out of the blue-green waters of the ocean.  Or how about a spray of pink, yellow, blue, and orange flowers gracing the wall around the baby’s crib?  Talk about an attention grabber for baby when they are finally able to focus on more than their hand in front of their face!

And there is the all-important clock that will tell you how long you have been up rocking that sleepless baby.  This piece should also be eye catching and interesting to both parent and baby.  Tractors, teddy bears, and fairies are all options when choosing your time piece.  Or even cowboys or cowgirls are fun to look at during the 2:00 A.M. feedings.  Whichever you choose, you can never go wrong if you pick fun and lively colors to complement the décor in the rest of the nursery.

The Perfect Décor Nursery

July 1st, 2009 by susie

When most women find out that they’re pregnant, the first thing they do is start planning the  perfect décor nursery.  They run to their computers and begin looking up all sorts of nursery decoration websites for the perfect furniture and other decorations.  Not only does the nursery need the obligatory baby bedding, but other nursery décor items are must-haves also—like lighting, wall décor, and possibly a rocking chair for the baby itself when it gets to be a bit older.  But the fun in decorating the baby nursery does not stop there.  The new mother-to-be needs to decide on the perfect crib, and what color to paint those bare walls.  It can all seem a bit overwhelming.

But there is no need to panic.  There are nine months of preparation ahead to make all of the important nursery décor decisions.  Any number of nursery decoration websites will help guide the new mother in the right direction.  The easiest and most obvious place to start would be the bedding.  When that is picked out, choose a few colors from the bedding and splash them up onto the wall.  Every wall doesn’t have to be the same color—mix it up and paint two walls in one color and the other two in another color.  Or, paint one half of the wall in one color and the other half of the same wall in the second chosen color.  There are no rules about what is right and what is wrong.  Murals, clocks, a cute light, and a stuffed animal or two will round out the nursery decoration.

Remember, you will be looking at those four walls many times a night and day while feeding and rocking and cajoling that little newborn to sleep, so they need to not only be stimulating to the baby, but to you also.

Christmas Crafts - Holiday Fun The Whole Family Can Do

June 30th, 2009 by susie

Christmas is a special time of year where in most cases, the family gathers together with peace and happiness in their minds. Getting ready for Christmas can actually be the best part. One way the whole family can get together and prepare for Christmas is by making Christmas crafts. There are many different types of crafts that your entire family can have fun making and below you will find just a few.

Making Christmas stockings - Stockings are actually very easy to make. You can buy the stocking at your local crafts store or create it out of fabric. Once you have the stocking ready, you can decorate it with your own personal touch. Some ideas are beads, buttons, glitter, sequin, lace, fabric paint, iron on letters and more.

Christmas Cookies - Christmas is just not the same without cookies! Making Christmas cookies is one of the most popular types of Christmas crafts around. What a fun and delicious way to spend time with your family on the holidays. You can cut out different Christmas shapes like angels, trees, snowmen, or candy canes out of dough. Use green and red food coloring to give the cookies Christmas color. Add some green and red sprinkles for an even merrier Christmas treat.

Christmas cards - This is a great one for your kids. Give them colorful construction paper and have them make delightful Christmas cards out of them. You can have them decorate their cards with glitter, cotton balls for snow, they can draw Christmas trees, snowflakes, reindeer, or snowmen. Whatever their little minds can imagine, can be added to these perfect Christmas cards.

Christmas wreaths - These Christmas crafts are almost guaranteed to start a tradition. You will need to get a wreath ring, foliage, and florist wire. Have the whole family go out for a walk and collect all sort of vegetation from mother nature. Collect twigs, leaves, spruce, evergreen (ivy and laurel leaves), pinecones, berries, poppies, holly and other shrubs. Once you have your vegetation collected, you are ready to start building your Christmas wreaths. What you do is tie the foliage to the wreath ring by wrapping the wire around the stem end of the foliage and then attach the wire to the wreath ring by threading another wire piece through and twisting it around the ring. Keep repeating this process an inch further up the stem. As you continue to do this, your wreath will eventually fill up and turn very festive looking.

Christmas crafts are a fun family tradition for many centuries. No matter which craft you decide to do with your family, the important thing is spending time with your loved ones on this special holiday.

Secrets to Facial Skin Care Success

June 29th, 2009 by susie

There is no shame in good facial skin care. Everyone wants glowing, beautiful skin. While laugh lines may indicate good times past, most of us would probably rather remember those times than look at wrinkly reminders. Taking good care of your facial skin is vital to retaining a youthful look for as long as possible.

However, in our hurry to purchase the latest facial skin care fad, we often neglect the simple things that we can do to keep our skin looking firm, young and healthy far more effective than the latest celebrity beauty trend.

* Give your skin vitamins. Age decreases your skin’s ability to fight free radicals and retain moisture. Taking a daily vitamin can seriously rejuvenate your skin.

* Add healthy nuts to your diet. Walnuts contain antioxidants that are good for your skin. Walnuts become particularly important to your skin care regimen after you turn 25, when your skin stops producing antioxidants on its own.

* Moisturize throughout the day. You may think that moisturizing too much can cause breakouts, but this is primarily a teenager’s problem. A lightly scented moisturizer will provide your skin – and you – with a refreshing boost throughout the day. Monitor your skin and if you start to see breakouts, switch to an oil-free moisturizer or reduce your moisturizing sessions.

These simple tips are not only great preventative measures, but they are restorative as well. Treating the skin from outside and inside with these facial skin care tips will help make your skin healthier than ever before.

Help for Buying Children’s Dance Shoes

June 29th, 2009 by susie

If you are looking for children’s dance shoes the search can be overwhelming. You may not know the exact shoe size of your child as dance shoe sizes are often different from normal shoes sizes. A challenge in finding the right children’s dance shoes is the many brands offered. You may find yourself wondering which brands are better and what exactly are the differences? Don’t be convinced that you have to buy a brand that’s more expensive? And does that make the shoe any better? You’ll find that just because the shoe is more expensive, doesn’t mean that it is that much better quality.

Here are 3 good tips to help you find children’s dance shoes:

Read online reviews
Reading reviews of products online is your best bet for finding the perfect brand, fit, or style of children’s dance shoes. You have the ability to hear directly from other mom’s who have bought a certain brand and if they would recommend it. Reviews are handy when you have selected a brand because you can find information about that brand online quickly and from people who have had experience with that brand so you know for sure.

Ask you child’s dance teacher which brands are known to be better for each discipline
Turn to your child’s dance teacher for help. Depending on the dance discipline your child is in (ballet, tap, jazz) there usually isn’t one brand that fits all. The dance teacher probably is knowledgeable about all types of dancing and can tell you, for example, which shoe brand would be better for tap and which would be better for ballet. If you use this method of going straught to the professional, you’ll surely find the right children’s dance shoes.

Select the brand based on durability, not price
Most likely, if you buy dance shoes for your child, they’ll get worn in fairly quickly as well as torn up quickly. But that usually varies depending on the brand. One brand of shoes may be more durable and will last a few seasons, which will leave you happy because you’ll save money in the long run. If your child is a ballet dancer, Capezio would probably be the brand to consider as they’re known for durability and comfort for the arch of the foot. If your looking for jazz shoes, Bloch may be a great brand to start looking at. Don’t just buy a shoe based on the price, do your research on quality and comfort first, then value. You could have to end up replacing the shoe faster than your child will grow out of it.

Numerous Uses Of Coloring Sheets To Keep your Child Entertained

June 27th, 2009 by susie

Today, with the Internet being so popular, you can find many different activities for your child to do online. There are countless computer games, educational activities, video games and more. There are also interactive websites that allow your child to get creative with coloring sheets. Your child can color either online filling in shapes and animals with color by the click of a mouse or offline by printing out coloring pages for them to color with crayons or coloring pencils.

We all know kids love to color. It allows them to get creative and express themselves artistically. Instead of sitting your child in front of the TV or a video game (and yes, even 5 year olds are playing video games now), why not turn on your computer and printer and allow them to create colorful masterpieces. You can also make your own with your photo-editing software

You do not have to worry about not finding enough sites that allow you to print out coloring sheets for your kids. There are plenty of sites to find such as Disney and Nickelodeon to more individually owned sites and they are all free. All you need is a printer and either crayons, markers, coloring pencils or paints.

Coloring sheets go way beyond simply printing and coloring though. There are many other fun things you and your child can do with these coloring pages. Let us explore just a few of these creative ideas.

1. Having a birthday party? Why not create your own party theme. Why go out and buy countless coloring books in the hopes that they match the party theme your child picked out, when you can search coloring sheets in pretty much any theme on the Internet. Does your child want Winnie the Pooh or Sponge Bob? Let them choose and simply print out for the kids to color later on during the party.

2. T-shirt making can be a fun activity to do with your child. Print out coloring pages and then color, scan, and print onto iron on transfer paper. Then simply iron onto your t-shirts.

3. Christmas decorations are easy to make. Print out some Christmas related coloring pages and have your child color them in. Then work together hanging them up in the windows and doors.

It just takes a bit of imagination when working with coloring sheets. The creative possibilities are endless. What a fun way to get your child to express themselves and show how far their imaginations will go. It takes nothing more than a computer, printer, coloring supplies, and your child’s ambition.

Children’s Dancewear Online: You’ll Find What You Need with Less Frustration

June 26th, 2009 by susie

Finding the right children’s dancewear can be hard to do. Usually moms have to look for dancewear that the teacher has made mandatory.   By the time you get to the store, it is very often the case that what you are looking for is not in stock. Let’s face it - that’s annoying. To make mom’s job easier, give her an option that means less time in the car taking her kids places and more time to do the things that make her smile. One way this can be achieved is by browsing for and purchasing children’s dancewear online. Start feeling better about purchasing and looking for children’s dancewear, knowing that you can always find what you need and tons of different sizes and brands online.

Here are 5 reasons it’s better to find children’s dancewear online.

Convenience

It is no mystery that one of the biggest reasons people buy online is to eliminate time spent in the car and to save on gas.  All moms could use a chance to eliminate a car trip with crabby kids in the backseat.  When looking for children’s dancewear, you can eliminate one more trip and find exactly what you were looking for whether it’s a leotard, tights, or ballet shoes. If you need a children’s dancewear item last minute, it’s no problem online. You’ll find what you need and have it delivered to your door. No need to wait for your local dance store to carry the item.

Greater Brand Selection

Online dance stores will normally carry up to 3 times more brand name items then what you see at a store. Your chances increase online for finding what you want and need.

Quantity Availability

Your local dance store can only carry so much merchandise. Stores are restricted to spacing issues and wha is available and how quickly from suppliers.  An online store is not limited to space requirements.  Online dance stores can carry a lot more brands and sizes, essentially eliminating the frustration of having to wait for what you want to come in stock again.

Product Reviews

Perhaps one of the best reasons to shop online is because of the product reviews.  You get an opportunity to hear from people who have actually tried out the product so you can make an informed decision on what you purchase. You can find user reviews online at children’s dancewear stores and dance forums.

Fabric Information

Instead on having to wait in line to talk to a sales associate at your local store, you can read product information quickly and at touch of a button when shopping for children’s dancewear online. An example would be if you are searching for dance tights and you do a comparison on materials, to see which one may be more comfortable as far as being less itchy for your child.

Finding Good Kids Internet Games

June 25th, 2009 by susie

Some parents are getting quite hesitant in letting their children play online games because of all the trouble and negative situations that kids can find on the internet this days. Unexpectedly, older kids might end up being a target by scams or be in a game that their parents would not approve of them participating in.

For younger children, there are kids online games that are rather educational and safe. Most of those games are safe enough for parents to walk away from their children for a few moments and know that they are playing safely online.

My five-year old daughter is a champion when it comes to kids online games. We are very particular about what we let her watch on television, so when it comes to playing games on the internet, we’re just as particular. However, some of our favorite children’s television stations, such as Noggin and Nick Jr. have wonderful websites with kids online games allow them to play with their favorite characters.

Not only are those sites filled with fun and creative kinds online games, but they can be more educational than watching them on the television. Quite honestly, my daughter can navigate through their websites a lot better than I can! She’s learning about how to use computers as well as whatever else the games are teaching.

I have found that by letting my daughter play kids online games, she actually comprehends more than the characters are teaching or showing on the television. But of course you don’t want to use the internet as a babysitter for your kids, not all the time.

On the computer, she has to count for herself – not just count along with the voices coming through the TV speakers. There are lots of other tasks that she has to accomplish for herself. While she hasn’t gotten into the Webkinz kids online games like many other children have, I know that if she does express an interest, that is a very safe and educational site as well.

A lot of time and energy has been spent putting together online games that children can find and play safely. It certainly will be a lot more difficult for a predator to target children when playing specific kids online games. I always make sure that I check on my daughter every few moments just to make sure that all is well, she’s still having fun and to make sure that she’s not breaking my computer!

It is relatively easy to find kids online games that are educational. You can simply search a few sites on Google or any other search engines. But be cautious on letting your kids sit in front of the computer for a long period of time because they might end up being a computer genius than you are!
